Prospect Spotlight: Trey Lawrence (2018)
TREY LAWRENCE, a class of 2018 combo guard at Glacier Placier Peak High School, caught my eye at the Saint Martins College High School Team Camp. The 6’5 rising senior does many things well on the court, and is a tremendous athlete.
“I am mainly a drive first type of guy, but I love the mid range and I also will take you baseline. Its all hustle on defense making sure my man does not score, grabbing every rebound, and put back for a dunk!” Trey stated. “On the court or even on the bench a lot of people may not see the way I pick my teammates up. Encouraging them to keep playing hard and focused on the next play.”
One thing I really like about Trey is that he involves himself within the flow of the game, and doesn’t command any play calls. He finds ways to produce no matter what. Trey’s versatility on both ends of the floor is very evident. He can defend almost any position.
“The most improvement I have made in the last 12 months is ball handling. Before, I was never comfortable bringing the ball up the court, starting an offense, or even catching it on the wing and attacking all the way to the rim. I have also improved on extending my range and even my help side defense,” Trey explained. “The next part of my game that I need to work on is making my weaknesses stronger, for example attacking with my off hand. I also need to work on creating more space to get my shot off and also be more consistent at the three-point line.”
Going into his senior year, Trey plays for Friends Of Hoop Red 17U out of Seattle, Washington. He described his experience as a “chance of a lifetime” because it has allowed him to gain some college exposure and college interest.
“The coaching staff here at Friends of Hoop Red 17U have really helped mold my game into what it is now. I’ve become better in all aspects. Along with developing my skill, I have been able to showcase it in front of hundreds of college coaches. Finding the right fit is important to me. My education is important to me and I want to make sure whatever program I commit to will commit to me in the same way. My goal is to get my college degre, help my future college program be successful in every aspect! My goal is to win a championship.”
His recruitment is really starting to pick up. I have been playing at my full potential and currently have one offer from Pacific Lutheran University. With July coming up and that being the live viewing period. He should start to receive some low major D1 schools and plenty quality of Division 2 programs. When you watch him he plays a lot bigger than his 6 foot 5 frame and can really cover ground from endline to endline. The NCAA showcase being held in Seattle mid July will be a great opportunity for him to showcase his game.
