Lafayette Christian Academy guard Terrence Jones is already a proven winner — he helped guide the Knights to a state title last winter — and he’s hoping that he can generate some recruitment before his junior season begins.
The 5-foot-8 rising senior is a true point guard, who prefers to set his teammates up above anything else, and defined his skill-set in his own words during a recent phone interview with PHLA.
“I like to set my teammates up and get them open. And I like to score too,” said Jones. “I have a good midrange, and I need to work on my 3-point shot, but I can get to the goal.”
As a sophomore with LCA, Jones was the starting point guard and helped lead his team to a 1A state championship.
“I had a lot of assists and scored a lot too, but really I just had to play my role,” said Jones.
And this spring and summer, he’s been playing up a grade level, with Team Milsap 17U.
“I knew that next year I was going to have to do more for my high school team,” said Jones. “So I wanted to get a little more experience playing against older people, and better competition.”
As for his recruitment, it’s been initial interest so far from the usual in-state schools
“I’ve talked to the Northwestern State coach, he called me the first day he was able to call the incoming juniors, and I saw him at a couple of games last weekend,” said Jones.
“I’ve gotten some camp invites too. I was thinking about going to the Xavier (LA) camp in August.”
With still two live weekends left to showcase his skills to college coaches, Jones is hoping to see a spike in his recruitment soon.
“I just hope I can open a few eyes in these tournaments coming up and just do what I’ve got to do,” said Jones. “And hopefully I can see more interest and maybe get an offer soon.”
