Prospect Spotlight: Talin Lewis (2018)
It’s becoming an aberration to find dual-sport athletes in this day and age with such an emphasis on playing one sport year round. However, Talin Lewis (Oaks Christian) is one of those athletes that is going against the grain.
The 6-foot-2 rising senior opened many eyes at the West Coast Elite High Academic Super Bowl held at Coronado High School in Las Vegas. He is a slashing 2-guard who excels in transition due his explosiveness and moxie.
“I feel my strength of my game are my ability to take defenders off the dribble utilizing my quickness and overall burst.”
A typical scenario at this camp was Lewis snatching a rebound in the open court, pushing it hard in transition, and either knifing his way to the rim or dropping off a nifty assist to an open teammate.
Although he can score in bunches in transition and he anticipates well in the passing lanes there are a couple of areas he wants to improve on heading into his senior campaign.
Lewis is one of the better dual sport athletes in So-Cal“Two areas that I need to improve on to take my game to another level are shooting and man-to-man defense.”
Due to his work ethic and mind set Lewis should have no problem bagging a scholarship in either basketball—has interest from Georgia Tech, Dartmouth, and Cal Lutheran—or track.
Thus far the summer is going well for Lewis, but he did get a late start to the spring evaluation season due to his excellence in track as he is a Division 1 prospect in the 300 hurdles. However, he is getting into his grove on the hardwood and appears to be peaking at the right time as he competes in the FAB 48 with his AIM High teammates.
