Prospect Spotlight: Nate Kummer (2018)
Stanwood 5-foot-11 point guard Nate Kummer is wrapping up his 17U summer with Northsound Elite, and hoping for some college attention to come his way before his senior season starts.
Kummer is a defensive-minded rising senior who was the sixth-man for one of Washington’s best teams last season.
His recruitment is currently wide-open, and he mentioned to PHWA during a recent phone what his strengths are as a player.
“My defense and getting to the paint are my strengths. And my jumper has really improved through my junior season and this offseason,” said Kummer.
“My role (last season) was to bring energy off the bench and get everyone hyped up that was on on the court. I needed to get steals and score on offense, just a sixth-man type deal.”
This season with the Spartans, Kummer will have a much larger role as a starter. But his personal goals are still defensive-minded.
“I’ll be in the starting lineup, and I hope we can make it to the state tournament again, that’s one of my main goals,” said Kummer. “And make all-conference and then lead the league in steals.”
In the meantime, he’s still got one more grassroots tournament to play with Northsound Elite 17U. And with no recruitment so far, he’s hoping he can turn some heads before July is over.
“Just kind of living in a small town I feel like I’m under the radar a little bit,” said Kummer.
“I’m hoping for a California school, or some in-state schools in Washington to give me some looks.”
