Prospect Spotlight: Lucas Lehrman (2018)
With the lack of size as always a hurdle that college coaches have to figure out, the class of 2018 presents and even bigger challenge than normal. However, some have emerged in the last couple of weeks as potential standouts and top targets for a lot of small school programs. One of the names that has been brought up by quite a few coaches is that of Bishop Dwenger (IN) big man Lucas Lehrman.
The 6’8 power forward has impressed starting back in the spring. A really nice kid and talent that plays with a motor and is only starting to scratch the surface, that is what Lehrman can bring to the table for a college looking for size. He’s a little limited in his skill set at times but we have seen the development from last season to this one and now from the spring to the summer. He’s making strides and big ones.
The key with Lehrman and why he is so coveted is his frame and motor. Not too many big men in the Midwest have the combination he has and as he continues to add more and more skill, he is going to really take off. We say that full on knowing that he has quite a bit of skill already. A guy who can back you down in the post and is showing good shooting form on his mid-range jumper.
As far as colleges that have pulled the trigger, both Lourdes and Indiana Tech have offered. He’s a guy that has been talked about amongst a ton of DIII and NAIA programs over the last few weeks and is drawing a ton of interest from the Crossroads League. He’s played himself into a couple of offers now and could really do well with this last week of play being back in Fort Wayne with Indy Heat Red 2018.
