Recruiting Report: Lezjon Bonds (2018)
Lincoln High School’s 6-foot-1 point guard Lezjon Bonds had a huge showing this past weekend in the Oregon Premier Showcase. His stock is rising and rising fast. Against some of the most Elite players on the floor he is able to still show dominance. I look forward to seeing his growth in the next year and into his college career.
Underrated could be an understatement. Bonds possesses great pace, understanding of the game and a knack for making the right plays time and time again. Was dominant this past weekend in Oregon. Got to the rim at will, spread the wealth at a high level and did a great job keeping opposing guards in front of him defensively. Knocked down shots in transition and executed well in pick and roll. His recruitment should trend up sooner than later.
Bonds was dominating below the rim for the majority of the showcase. The explosive guard from Anderson showed off his athleticism on the break, in the half court, and on the boards. The three-ball was also falling at a high rate throughout the showcase. Lezjon was one of the toughest guards on the day and showed out on both ends of the floor. Rebounds at an elite level from the two-guard position.
Bonds is an aggressive point guard who loves to push the pace on both ends of the floor. He is constantly coming at his opponents without any letup, especially on the defensive end, where he was one of the top on-all defenders in the tournament. He doesn’t mind picking his man up in the full court. He attacked the basket well on the offensive end and finished many buckets in traffic.
There are several D1 programs that are close to offering this young man. I think at this point and based on his performance he is considered a high major recruit.
Currently right now there are no offers on the table, however Pepperdine, Hawaii and Central Arkansas have been at the forefront and have been in contact with him. His freshman year is when Boise State, Seattle and Portland State started to really take notice and even came to a couple of open gyms to check him out.
A versatile playmaker, Bonds says he’s able to play the game however it needs to be played, and he’s able to adapt well to different scenarios on the court.
Lincoln has a really good group of guys that play well together and get along on and off the court. Lezjon can either be a scorer or a playmaker. Based on my assessment he tries not to limit himself on the floor and wants to show he has an all around game. Lezjon didn’t really have a set role with the team, he just goes out there and plays the game of basketball like its his last game.
Playing in his last season with NW Panthers 17U, he should definitely take advantage of all the great coaching, mentoring and training he can because the next level is right around the corner for him.
In an earlier interview he stated that, “Basically, I have been apart of the program since I was in grade school, and this summer I’m looking forward to just getting better and seeing improvements every day. The ultimate goals is to just get exposure and showcase my talent.”
Mr. Bonds in my opinion is a high level recruit and can play with the best of them. He definitely put that on display during the showcase. My guess is that we will hear about this young man at the next level.
