Prospect Spotlight: Jordan Graham (2019)
We are on the tail end of summer basketball and around the country college prospects at all levels are working on their game and working toward earning an opportunity to play at the next level. Prep Hoops Kentucky puts the spotlight on prospects around the Bluegrass State.
Jordan Graham is a 6’3 PG from George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Ky. As a sophomore, Graham started for GRC and handled the point guard duties for a team that went 20-13 and finished their season with a loss to Campbell County in the opening round of the 10th region tournament. Jordan was the second leading scorer for the Cardinals at 11.5 PPG on 43% shooting while also contributing 4.2 rebounds per game. Coach Josh Cook will be looking for Graham to play an even larger role next season as GRC looks to make a run to Rupp Arena.
2019 GRC/M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs PG Jordan GrahamPrep Hoops recently caught up with the rising Junior to discuss his high school and AAU seasons and where his recruitment stands. “Coming into last season, I had to step up to lead a young team that only returned one starter from the year before. I took a lot of pride in my individual defense and always had to guard the opposing team’s best player”, said Graham when asked to reflect on his sophomore campaign with the Cardinals. Looking ahead to his Junior year, Graham has high expectations,”Last season was good, but this season has the makings to be great. We return all 5 starters and added an important piece to a big puzzle (referencing transfer Brennan Canada from rival Montgomery County). I only have one goal for this year and that’s to allow my senior teammates to end their careers at Rupp Arena.”
Jordan recently ended his 16u season after a good July with M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs. He reflected on his summer with the Mustangs, “Overall, AAU was fun. I got to see where I match-up with D1 level talent from all across the country. Graham was satisfied with his individual play while still seeing room for improvement. “I’m continuing to work on my 3 point shot and continuing to improve my ball handling. Being a bigger point guard, I need to be able to protect the ball from smaller, quicker defenders.”
Although he’s only about to start his Junior year at GRC, Graham has seen some early college interest. “I’ve been contacted by Wright State, SEMO and Morehead State at the D1 level, NAIA Power Georgetown College, and perennial D2 contender Bellarmine“. Graham projects to have multiple college options and is already starting to think about what he wants in a school. “I’m looking for a school with a nice campus, close enough to KY that my family can see me play. I’m looking for a school with great academics and lots of pride in their sports teams.
Graham is a player to keep tabs on as the already impressive class of 2019 continues to impress at both the state and national levels.
