Prospect Spotlight: Isaias Sanchez (2019)
The passion this University High School rising junior plays with can not be ignored.
Isaias Sanchez has a mindset that said “look for the team, feed everyone the ball.” He’s driven by the opportunity to be the ultimate team player. He makes the RIGHT pass, takes the RIGHT shot. Sanchez does it, all while knowing that there’s certain limits he has to push past.
“I know that my height isn’t there, so I just push myself every day to be better than yesterday.”
Sanchez is a solid assister. His head stays on a swivel. When it comes to handling the ball, his handles are quick and purposeful. On the drive, he’s a terror. Defenses have to keep an eye on his moves.
Sanchez can either take the contact and lay it up, or quickly dish it to the post man or three-shooter for an easy bucket. During a game at the recent Raptors Elite ID4 Invitational, he took a player off-the-dribble well enough to make him fall over. His first step is mighty quick.
When speaking to him, Sanchez was forthcoming on the things he needs to do to improve. His jumper is there, but it needs to be better at the guard spot. Great handles can only take you so far once it becomes time to get shot off. He’s dedicating a lot of time in the gym to that.
From there, the second half of high school is going to consist of leadership building. He voiced that he wants to be more of a communicator to his team. He wants to grow into someone who has the pulse of his squad in his hand. It’s going to take getting out of his comfort zone, but Sanchez is ready for the challenge.
