Prospect Spotlight 2019: Miles Gally
Miles Gally, 6’9″,C, 2019, Richard Montgomery HS Rockville, MD.
Grassroots Team: The District Basketball Club 16 & U.
We have seen Miles this spring and summer at The District Basketball Club practices and at The Maryland Elite Summer League where he plays for Richard Montgomery HS. Not to downplay Miles skills or abilities, but Miles plays with great effort, intensity and he is always looking out for his teammates well being. Miles projects to be a stretch 4 or 5, and to date we have him rated as low D1 mid major. However, due to Miles work ethic, focus, passion and since his body is still filling out, this young man could project higher in the long 2 years ahead of him.
Miles told us, “Currently, I am a rim protector and a good rebounder, but better on the offensive end. I get my rebounds and blocks thru position and technique. I am working very hard with District Basketball Coach Wes Dunning on my strength, conditioning & flexibility at Healthy Baller. Without question I am seeing the results pay off on the court where I am continually getting stronger, quicker, more explosive & flexible.” Over the last 6 months we have the transformation in Miles body and he says, ” I love the s&c aspect of basketball and I will continue my hard work for the rest of my life, but obviously make some adjustments when my basketball career is over.”
On the offensive end Miles says,” I consider myself to be a good passer from anywhere on the court. Currently my range is out to the high school 3 point line. This summer I am improving my shooting of the dribble. In the low post I have a nice right handed hook, and I am working on my left. If I fake my hook I can use my up and under move to get to the rim. Also, I am adding a drop strep this summer & I want to be as multi dimensional as I can on both sides of the ball. At DBC my Coaches pull our Bigs aside and we work on our low post moves. However, we do extend to the foul line on offense, and work very hardon our defense & positioning.”
Additionally, this spring & summer Miles is working out with DBC & Gonzaga HS Assistant Coach Roger Garfield. Miles says,” I work & practice a lot lot with Coach Garfield on my overall skill set and shooting. He has helped me a lot with positioning, low post moves, shooting, fundamentals & defense.” Miles studies other players and watches many games & adds,” I like to watch Pau Gasol and Tyler London (Syracuse) live and on you tube which I can break down in slow motion.
In the classroom Miles carries an excellent 3.4 GPA and his favorite subject is Math. He adds, ” My parents push me to do well in school. My Mom graduated from Dartmouth and my Dad from Syracuse. Also, they attend my games and are very supportive for my basketball, but the academics come first.”
Miles earned 2nd Team All Star in the Powerade Platform 16 & U Grassroots Circuit for The District Basketball Club this April. The District Basketball Club will compete this July 13-16 in Charlotte, NC in the National Powerade Platform Grassroots finals. DBC 16 & U is currently 11-1 on the Powerade Platform , 19-3 overall and ranked #2 in the nation. We will provide updates for DBC and reports, stay tuned.
Last season The Richard Montgomery Rockets were one of the best teams in Montgomery County posting a 20-5 record and losing in the Maryland 4A State Quarterfinals to Quince orchard who lost in the 4A Title game to Perry Hall HS in OT. Despite losing a few starters we rank the Rockets one of the top teams in MOCO 4A and we will be covering Miles, RMHS and MOCO basketball this year.
