Prospect Report: Skylar Hammer (2019)
Class of 2019 6’0 Junior guard Skyler Hammer has the ability to guard the toughest guards in the conference and then some. The Shorewood High School and WA ELITE standout will turn heads this summer.
A defensive-first point guard, Skyler Hammer should start to see his recruitment ramp-up here after the summer sessions have concluded.
He currently holds no offers, but is very optimistic when it comes to his career.
“No offers right now, I’ve had a lot of high interest from several different schools but still staying humble and working on my game. I have a lot of time for the coaches to see me and with my current AAU team WA ELITE I will get those chance,” said Skylar.
“I’ve been working on my game a lot and trying to improve on the offensive side of the floor. Shooting, ball handling and pick roll are all parts of the game I want to master and excel at.”
Unique about the talented 2019 prospect is his defensive approach to the game, he embraces being a lock-down defender. And said he was the energy guy last season as a sophomore .
“I always guarded the best player and just try to make them uncomfortable. I felt like I brought a lot of energy to the team, especially to the starting five, just getting up and down the floor, getting steals and starting fast-breaks, stuff like that,” he said.
“I focus a lot on defense, especially when it’s a top-notch player that I’m playing against, I’m always up for the challenge to guard the best player. I’m always willing to sacrifice my offense to guard the best player.”
Though he spends most of his time now as a combo guard, he says sees himself primarily as a point guard at the next level.
“Definitely point guard in college, I like to run the show and get my teammates the ball, and I’d like to be a defensive anchor on the other end, and then knock down shots when I’m open,” said Skylar.
“We got a big month of July coming up. I just have to show my talent and hopefully help us get a couple wins, and get some of our guys more exposure.”
