Preview: Adidas Summer Championships, 17U
The 2017 Colorado grassroots season has nearly reached its conclusion. After a spring and summer season that saw new players emerge and others cement their status as bonafide college prospects of various levels, we’ve reached the final live period of the year.
We’ll be previewing the three major Las Vegas tournaments that Colorado teams will be competing in this weekend.
Adidas Championships.
The Colorado Hawks are coming off an impressive run through the Mullens High Profile Tournament in Wichita, Kan., where they emerged with the title after going 5-0. The Hawks were led by Sam Masten, fresh off his verbal commitment to Northern Colorado. This is a big recruiting weekend for the Hawks as bigs Bodie Hume and Will Becker, both of whom have garnered Division I attention, aim to show once again what they can do in front of a litany of college coaches. Hume picked up his first Division I offer last week, which came from Northern Colorado. The Hawks kick things off late Wednesday night against Garner-Road Coleman.
Billups Elite also is coming off a strong showing at West Coast Elite Summer Classic in California, going 4-0. That was an the heels of an impressive 4-1 march at the Adidas Gauntlet Finale in South Carolina during the first live period. The play during those respective periods by 2017 point guard Jaizec Lottie has helped him earn an offer from the University of Boston as a possible late signee. John Harge, Cortney Dean, Sam Bannec and Tray Pierce are among the 2018 players hoping to turn heads while Billups aims to make another strong run at the Summer Championships, where last year they reached the quarterfinals.
