PHI Senior Showcase: Mason’s Top Five Unknown Players
These are the best five players that I saw at the PHI Senior Showcase that I hadn’t seen play before and/or had not heard of. There was tons of talent on the courts and these five guys stood out to me.
Hayden Langkabel/6’0/Guard/Morristown
I had heard of Langkabel before, I just had never seen him play and boy can he play. He looked good while driving to the hoop and I thought his defense may have been even better than his scoring ability. Last high school season he scored 27.0 point a game and now seeing his abilities on the offensive end I think he’ll easily surpass that clip. Langkabel was also one of the hardest workers that we saw and that will transfer for him to the next level.
Dylan Penn/6’2/Guard/Evansville Memorial
Penn was very impressive for the first time I watched him play. He has great touch with the ball and his handles are there allowing him to stay on the ball in college. He managed the games really well and knew when to shoot or dish it off. I really noticed how long he was early on which really helps him get his shot off over defenders and in the lane over bigger guys.
Lucas Lehrman/6’9/Forward/Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger
I hadn’t seen Lehrman play but once I saw him I knew I wanted to keep an eye on him. Being 6’9 he really runs the floor well and can score the ball to match that. The only knock on him is that he is a little thin but once he adds weight he will be a mismatch for a small school. He is a good defender and will only get better with a little weight on him.
Eli Streeval/6’1/Guard/Morristown
Streeval caught my attention when he tried to jam one on Caleb Brown. He missed but it still caught my interest since he’s a 6’1 kid showing no fear trying to dunk on a D1 prospect. Eli has insane athleticism and that will translate to the next level. His shot doesn’t look that great as some times the spin would come out really funky but that won’t really hold him back since he is such an athletic freak. He’ll fit in well at a small school and be able to match up with a lot of guys on the floor.
James Burns/6’6/Forward/Lafayette Jefferson
Easily the most impressive guy that I hadn’t seen on the day was Burns out of Lafayette Jefferson. Burns was doing it all and was doing it easily. He was shooting the ball well, getting to the rim, and even throwing down some big dunks. I didn’t get to see him til the second to last game but he scored 27 points in 15 minutes as his teammates kept feeding him the ball. His stock will take off in July as a forward with strength that can score the ball from many spots on the floor.
