Orlando Hoops Festival Standouts: Part 2
The 2017 Orlando Hoops Festival took place at The First Academy this past weekend.
Source Hoops put together a full slate of competitive games from Friday through Sunday. A packed schedule made for plenty of solid matchups, but also some games where players looked tired. That is typical of the live period.
Coaches from FSU, LSU, Clemson, FGCU, Drexel, USF, UCF, Stetson and more looked on as they evaluated the talent.
Here are is the second part of my top standouts list. Read part 1, here.
Tyrell Jones (Showtime Ballers/West Oaks)
The Showtime Ballers 16U backcourt is a good one with Jordan Smith and Tyrell Jones. As for Jones, he is a high energy player who finds openings in defenses as an attacking and spot up shooter. He’ll be headed to West Oaks this fall and I have a hunch that he’s going to earn a few Division I offers. Colleges were talking about the 2019 prospect all weekend.
Angel Smith (Team Breakdown/Northeast)
Angel Smith is a hard worker at his 6’3″ frame. He performed well this weekend and turned some heads in the process. The 2019 Northeast guard is in for a big season. He can really propel himself up the charts with a sound year and I think that will help his overall stock. Smith is a clear low/mid-Division I talent.
Isaiah Palermo (Team CP25/Osceola)
Playing on a very talented Team CP25 16U group, Isaiah Palermo is a lengthy forward who can really shoot. He showed well defensively on the weekend. If he can improve his ballhandling skills, Palermo would be an ideal small forward at the next level. However, if he can continue to grow in height and get stronger, he can play power forward. He’s a mid-Division I player right now.
Kobe Julien (Louisiana Elite/Madison Prep)
Many Florida colleges in attendance loved what Kobe Julien could do. One school specifically told me how much they like his all around game. Julien holds offers from Louisiana Lafayette and TCU. He is a 2018 forward, who hustles on both ends of the floor. His burst on offense is impressive. Julien will do big things this fall and raise his stock.
Marvin Price (D.C. Blue Devils/Patterson)
The D.C. Blue Devils have a nice 16U squad. Marvin Price, a 2019 Patterson guard was the steadiest of the bunch this weekend with his playmaking ability. Price is a jumbo guard/wing at his 6’5″ frame. When he gets downhill, he is hard to stop. Plus, his passing is up there with some of the top guys. He is a mid-Division I talent right now.
