Derrick’s Dimes: NY2LA Summer Jam Friday Standouts
Mequon, Wi – Prep Hoops was on hand for day 3 of the NY2LA Summer Jam at Homestead High School in Mequon Wisconsin. It was another action-packed day and here we look at some of the Standouts on Friday night in NY2LA Summer Jam: Derrick’s Friday Dimes!
PG – Cardell McGee 6’4’’ Wisconsin Playground Warriors (2018)
The point guard out of Springfield Illinois (Lanphier) Looked smooth running the point after spending majority of his time off the ball the last couple of years. McGee showed he could distribute the ball and run the show for the Playground Warriors as well as get buckets around the rim. McGee impressed with several crisp assists off the dribble to find teammates. McGee was also effective scoring the ball where he had success attacking the rim at the baseline. He is a good athlete that if he can improve his handle and defense his stock will go up. Coming off an injury in the spring McGee is looking to show coaches he can run the show from the PG spot.
PG – Xavier Pinson 6’3” Mac Irvin Fire Elite (2018)
Xavier Pinson, who will spend his senior year at Simeon HS has a good night scoring the ball for the Mac Irvin Fire Elite the guard has a knack for scoring around the basket and is lethal out in transition. He has improved his handle and court vision which have helped him become a more complete point guard. Pinson poured in 22 points for the Fire in a win over Wisconsin Swish and picked up an offer from Evansville. Pinson continues to have a strong summer.
C – Ryan Davis 6’9’’ Wisconsin Playground Warriors (2018)
The big man out of Conant had a strong outing vs AUSA. Davis was force on the interior where he controlled the glass and was a major rim protector with timely blocked shots. Davis effects the game in so many ways and can really stretch the floor for the Warriors. He is a solid passer and can knock down the 3 especially off the pick and roll where he likes the pick and pop. He is a mismatch problem because he can use his body to get good positioning down low and is an efficient scoring from the post. Davis scored 22 points in a win over AUSA. Impressive mid-major prospect.
WF – Ignas Brazdeikis 6’8’’ CIA Bounce EYBL (2018)
Ignas Brazdeikis is out of Oakville, Ontario Canada and the 6’8’ wing forward can get to the rim with the best of them. Brazdeikis has good size at 6’8’’ and a solid build. He is a tough competitor with a strong motor. Can play either the 3 or 4 with his ability to shot from the outside, handle the ball and get to the rim. He went off for 33 points Friday night, and at one point scored 10 straight points all on drives to the bucket. I like how he can switch it up and get real physical for baskets or use slick footwork and handle to finesse his way to scores. Major upside for the Canadian who had the top individual performance on the night. High Major D1 player with multiple P-5 offers.
