Mullen’s High Profile Recap: (Class of 2018 Forwards)
Here is a look at some of the top Missouri Class of 2018 forwards from last weekend’s Mullen’s High Profile Tournament in Bel Aire, KS.
Marty Jackson 6’5″ NdaGym: The long and lean combo forward was a problem for opposing teams on both ends all weekend as he averaged 13 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. His thin frame wasn’t a problem for him in the paint as he used his quickness to get buckets and offensive rebounds. He is very comfortable on the perimeter where he showcased his excellent ball handling and passing skills. He scored on drives to the basket and also made a number of 3-pointers as he was a matchup problem.
Wesley McCullough 6’7″ KC Magic: The talented Stretch 4 put on an outstanding shooting display throughout the weekend. In the two games I watched him play on Saturday, he made a total of 13 3-pointers. His shot was pure and it looked like it was going in every time. He is more than just a spot up shooter. He has good mobility and can put it on the floor and score off the dribble if defenders close out to hard on him. He also has a nice touch around the basket with both hands.
Tyreese Davis 6’6″ KC Run GMC: The Kansas City native is doing a year of prep school. He is a versatile athlete with a big body and a high motor. He is an all-purpose performer who can play all three frontcourt positions, including center in a small-ball lineup. He is a strong offensive rebounder who will also get out in transition and outrun opposing bigs for buckets. He is also a tough matchup because of his ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket.
Clay Gayman 6’5″ KC Pacers: The hard-working combo forward showcased his athleticism and versatility during the weekend as he picked up a couple of Division II offers from Washburn and Nebraska-Kearney. He moved well without the basketball on the perimeter and knocked down a number of 3-pointers off the catch. He continues to rebound at a high rate and score in the low post with his variety of moves and good footwork.
Leon Perry 6’7″ MO Team Carroll: Leon enjoyed a highly productive weekend as he kept the motor running throughout the tournament. He is a strong athlete who powered his way to several buckets through traffic and some serious contact. He was a persistent offensive rebounder who got the reward with many put-backs for buckets. He also stepped out and made a number of 15 footers as well as a couple of step-back fadeaway jumpers. Leon was also one of the most impressive shot blockers in the tournament.
Bol Tong 6’7″ MO Team Carroll: A very long Stretch who can be an intriguing prospect because of his size and ability to knock down 3-pointers. He is an ideal pick and pop player with his ability to launch those high-arching 3-pointers. He did his best work on Sunday’s final day when he rebounded more aggressively and started to use his vast length to challenge shots at the rim. He can also handle the ball a little bit in the open court.
Brad Hailey 6’6″ KC Premiere: A small-school standout who has a big body and a versatile skill set. I was very impressed with his ability to pass the ball. They ran a lot of offense through him as he can hit open cutters and find open 3-point shooters with pinpoint passing. He has a solid post game, which includes the fade-away jumper off of one leg, which he executes very well. He also hustles for offensive rebounds.
Cason Suggs 6’7″ Missouri Impact: The long and lanky forward was a picture of effort and intensity has his motor ran strong throughout the weekend. He put together a string of double-doubles as he attacked the boards on both ends and came away with several put backs. He was constantly running the court. On offense, he has a good face-up game, which includes a nice shooting touch from 12-15 feet where he gets full extension on his jumper.
