All In Hoopfest: Northeast Ohio Gs
Over the entire week, we’ll be highlighting the impressive performances from Ohio prospects at the All In Hoopfest in Louisville. We started on Monday with the Breakout Performances. Now, we’re taking a trip all the way around Ohio by checking in on players in accordance to their state region and position.
In this guards recap, we have a collection of talent which includes guys who could be considered for other positions. However, we find these guys most effective when they’re focused on making plays from the wing.
Dominick Moegerle (2020), 6’4” hybrid, Ohio Basketball Club
Moegerle, a high-riser from Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, looked more comfortable on the wing that we’d ever seen him. In a game against Shooting Star, Moegerle was taking defenders off the dribble. We’d come accustomed to him finding transition buckets. But, if Moegerle continues adding ball-handling ability, expect him to project into a D-I prospect, because he’s one of the best pure athletes in the class.
Meechie Johnson (2021), 5’10” G, Ohio Basketball Club
The incoming freshman at Garfield Heights can play right away for the Bulldogs, even considering their level of talent next season. Finding a spot for Johnson shouldn’t be difficult, as he can flat-out score the ball against anyone. His off-the-dribble shooting ability is elite.
We also came away impressed with other facets of Johnson’s game. For example, he was excellent in communicating on defense when faced with screens. Also, he uses his shooting ability to set up post entry passes — often starting his shot before dropping a ball in for a wide open layup.
Key’shawn Ford (2018), 6’3” G, Ohio Basketball Club – Classic Impressions
In their first bracket game on Sunday, against Indiana Faith, Ford showed a bright flash of excellence. His physical stature resembles a football player, yet he was showing some wiggle and ability to change speeds on the dribble drive. Even when the opponent resisted his drives, Ford’s power was enough to finish layups. He also talks on defense a lot, making sure there’s no lapses on his side of the floor.
Christian Guess (2018), 6’5” W, Ohio Basketball Club
Guess is relentless in attacking the rim. While Guess seems to avoid dribbling with the left-hand, he’s more than willing to finish on either side. Most of his points come when he has a lot of momentum going towards the rim, as he’s especially aggressive in transition. Guess also played with a lot of moxie, as he’s definitely not shy in challenging his teammates to step it up.
