With July finally upon us, we are just weeks away from high school football teams beginning their practices and camps. Today, I will award my All Gridiron Basketball players, which will award the top football players who also are stars on the basketball court.
L’Christian Smith (2018) Wayne– One of the top WR’s in the country, Smith has just as much talent running routes as he does throwing down dunks and grabbing rebounds. He has heavy interest from Ohio State and Kentucky for football scholarships. With 40 receptions and over 730 yards receiving last season, Smith is bound to have a strong senior year on both the gridiron and the court.
Connor Bazelak (2019) Alter– Connor will return as the starting QB for the Knights. With interest from multiple MAC schools as well as some BCS schools, Bazelak is a top prospect. While he has a strong arm on the football field, his three point shooting makes him unique on the court. Connor will be a name to watch on both fields of play this upcoming season.
Leonard Taylor (2018) Springfield– Taylor is a strong two way player as he serves as the TE and DE for the Wildcats. One of the top players in the state, Taylor uses his brute strength and athleticism to make defensive plays on the football field, and in the paint. He totaled 9 TDs in 2016 and will likely build on that number come August. Taylor has interest from multiple Big Ten schools for football and will be looked upon as a leader for Springfield on both ends.
Meechi Harris (2018) Xenia– Harris is a strong WR for the Buccaneers and is one of the top players in Dayton. Harris scored 10 TDs last season and was a key contributor in Xenia’s offense. On the basketball court, Harris was a guard who used his speed to blow by his defenders. He will be a leader for both the basketball and football teams and will be a name to watch in both sports this upcoming season.
