GASO 15u Scouting Reports: 6th Man
6th Man
Jahmal Byers 6’0 PG 2020 Ville Platte
Byers is one of the top point guards for the 2020 class, and it was evident this weekend why. He is very tough to stay in front with his quickness, and he tons of crafty finishes with either hand around the rim. When he is locked in on defense, he can be an absolute menace. However, what will ultimately decide his ceiling going forward is his ability to shoot from the outside, which is shaky at best.
Brayden Board 6’5 F 2020 Crowley
Board is one of the more versatile 2020 players, and he had a monster first game of the tournament. He started by scoring 14 of the teams first 16 points, including two threes from DEEP, and an offensive rebound turnaround fadeaway that hit nothing but net. There are questions about his level of toughness and dedication, but if he plays like he did last weekend, those will be a thing of the past.
Terrian Roy 6’2 SG 2020 Ville Platte
Roy is another member of Ville Platte’s talented 2020 class, and he can flat out score the ball. He shot the ball well from deep, and is able to create his own shot off the dribble. He can use his length to finish around size at the rim, and also uses that length to his advantage on the defensive side of the ball. I hope in the future, he learns to use his size more to his advantage, because for now, he plays more like he is 5’8 instead of 6’2.
Holden Pellerin 6’6 F 2020 Carencro
Pellerin was a bit restricted this weekend because of a nagging shoulder injury that he sustained in April, but it is easy to see what makes him special. He has really good size and can defend the rim and rebound at a high level. He can also bully defenders down in the post, and has a solid shooting form and touch, but will need to speed his release up going forward in order to really be a threat from 15 ft out.
Bentravin Phillips 5’4 G 2020 David Thibodaux
Look, I know what you are thinking when you see his size, but his size doesn’t slow down his game at all. He is tough as all get out, and attacks the rim with reckless abandon. He takes punishment from big hits game in and game out, and get up after all of them. He can shoot at a high rate from deep, and is good for at least one highlight play a game that will make the crowd go “oooohhhh.” Now there are some obvious defensive limitations to his game, but he has made real strides being a great on ball defender, and can use his quickness to get lots of steals.
