GASO 15u Louisiana Scouting Report: NOLA23 & iSpotUp
NOLA23
Justin Ibieta 6’5 G 2020 Country Day
Ibieta is one of the more versatile prospects for the 2020 class. He has the size and strength to post up, and the speed and skills to bring the ball up the court. He looked better when he was out on the perimeter, but down low he was able to get enough offensive rebounds to be a difference maker.
Shawn Royal 6’4 G 2020 Country Day
Royal is another big guard from Country Day that can do a lot of things on the basketball court. He has size and length to be a disruptor on the defensive end when his effort is there, and he can shoot, pass, and finish on the offensive end. Rumor has it he is on the verge on picking up his first offer pretty soon.
Corey Smooth 6’0 G 2020 Archbishop Rummel
Smooth is such a fun player to watch, and his game lives up to his name. Basketball just looks like it comes so easily to him. When the ball is in his hands, he is shifty getting to the goal, and has great vision even in the halfcourt.
Ben Seiden 6’6 F 2019 St. Paul’s
Seiden is a class of 2019 kid, but because of his birthday plays with the 15u group, and with his size, he is able to dominate in the post. He can both score and pass down low, but the thing that really surprised me was how good his footwork was in the pick and roll. He was quick enough to stay in front of guards on a switch, and keep them out the paint.
Rashad Holmes 5’8 G/F 2020 John Curtis
Holmes is a high energy guy that comes off the bench for NOLA23, but he can have a big impact on the game because of what he brings on the defensive end. He is a very good on ball defender, and got multiple steals both on and off ball. His high motor is able to make up for his skillset that is still developing.
iSpotUp
Brandon Garrido 5’10 G 2019 Episcopal
iSpotUp was a hodge-podge of 2019 and 2020 kids, and Garrido had as big an impact as anyone. He was able to play more on the ball, and was able to get to the goal and knock down some big shots. One of the most underrated areas of his game is his ability to stop 2-1 transition opportunities for the other team, using his quick hands to get steals and deflections.
Cameron Jones 6’4 F 2019 Doyle
Jones is another kid with some talent for his team. He is a stretch big and knocked down some big shots, and was able to get to the rim when the defense ram him off the line.
Eli Dawsey 5’10 G 2019 Doyle
Dawsey wasn’t able to play much this weekend due to an injury, but for his high school team, he can really go. He does a good job of handling the ball, and can shoot well from deep.
