Early Top 5 GCL Central
After spending the last few days previewing Dayton Divisions as a whole, now I will shift my focus to early conference previews. The goal here is to show you right now who the Top 3 teams are in the conference and the Top 5 players. Let’s look at the GCL Central.
- Purcell Marian– The Cavaliers were a young team last year, yet they still finished .500 in the GCL. With 4 of their 5 core players returning, this team is ready to take the next step as the top team in the Central.
- McNicholas– McNick comes back from a 12-11 season and returns a strong core of their players from a year ago. The big question for the Rockets will be can they get the job done in league play? They went 3-7 last year against GCL opponents.
- Roger Bacon– One year removed from a trip to Columbus and the Spartans are at the bottom again. Losing 3 starters was rough especially when their young star Alec Pfriem transferred to Moeller. Expect more of a rebuilding year for Bacon as they start back up.
- Badin– The Rams lost over 20 points per game from last year with graduation hitting them hard. After only winning one game in the league last year, Badin should have no problem improving their win total however, I still have concerns as to how this team’s post play will be.
Top 5 Players
Cole Burdick (McNicholas)- Talented shooter capable of taking over a game from behind the arc.
Javonta Lyons (Purcell Marian)- Do-it-all forward with great athleticism.
Ryan Reidy (McNicholas)- Strong guard that gets to the rim and finishes at the FT line.
Justin Pappas (Badin)- Young post presence who excels on the boards.
Ace Taylor (Purcell Marian)- Young defensive menace; especially on-the-ball.
