Early GWOC National Top 5
After spending the last few days previewing Dayton Divisions as a whole, now I will shift my focus to early conference previews. The goal here is to show you right now who the Top 5 teams are in the conference and the Top 5 players. Let’s look at the GWOC National.
- Wayne– After a rough year last season, the Warriors are back and are the top team in the National division. 3 of their returning starters are receiving lots of interest from D1 schools at the collegiate level. Kevin Kuwik is taking over after Travis Trice left to become the girls basketball coach at Wayne.
- Centerville- The Elks lost some major pieces with their 2 leading scorers from last year graduating and taking their 25 points per game with them. Fortunately, their 2 returning starters are big time players with great potential. Coach Brook Cupps is a great coach who always finds ways to dominate with whoever he has on his team.
- Miamisburg- The Vikings struggled badly last year as they only won 2 in their conference. However, this year looks to be a much different outcome. With a strong core returning, including 3 starters, Miamisburg has their best chance to win the West division this year.
- Fairmont- This Firebirds team will have no problem attacking beyond the arc come November. They showed last year they could compete with some of Southwest Ohio’s best teams and they should be one of the better teams come Winter.
- Springfield- It’s difficult when a team has to replace on starting guard. Imagine losing both to graduation. That’s where the Wildcats are at right now, but their frontcourt looks to be one of the best in the conference and will be depended on for production for Springfield to be competitive.
Top 5 Players
Jack Hendricks (Fairmont)- Sharpshooting guard with tremendous range.
L’Christian Smith (Wayne)- Two sport star with great rebounding abilities and defense.
Leonard Taylor (Springfield)- Another football star that grabs rebounds with ease on the court.
Darius Quisenberry (Wayne)- Super talented PG with great ball handling and scoring ability.
Duncan Hall (Miamisburg)- Double-double machine that rebounds the ball extremely well.
