Baden I-85 Circuit Finals – Day 1 Standouts
Prep Hoops SC took in the first round action at the Baden I-85 Circuit Finals yesterday at the Upward Center in Spartanburg, SC. Here is a look at some players who stood out in performance from the Palmetto State in the 2019-2020 Class.
Norman Nowell 3 Ball Elite 2019 Richland Northeast HS (Columbia) 2019 (photo on the front)
Nowell 6’0 combo guard is a quick guard that gets the ball up the court. Nowell will get into the passing lanes for the steal on defensive end. Nowell hit several three pointers to give 3 Ball Elite the lead in the game. Nowell finished the game with 18 points in the win over the Anderson Knights.
Tai’shein Mahdi Anderson Knights Pendleton HS 2019
Mahdi 5’10 point guard plays both football and basketball at Pendleton HS. Mahdi hit several three and made several steals that turn into easy baskets today. Mahdi brings the ball up the floor and sets up the offense for the Knights. Mahdi drove through traffic in the lane and had no problems breaking the press with his ball-handling. Mahdi will stop and pop the mid-range jumper. Mahdi had a team-high 15 points in the loss. Mahdi averaged 8.8 ppg last year at Pendleton HS.
Jamil Martin Anderson Knights Emerald HS (Greenwood) 2019
Martin is a physical and athletic 6’0 combo guard. Martin plays all out at all times while on the floor. Martin gives a 100 percent while on the floor, all over the glass for the rebound. Martin has his mind made up where he is going with ball on the drive through the traffic.
Martin plays wide receiver for the Vikings on the gridiron. Martin averaged 5.6 ppg last year for Emerald HS.
Nick Brenegan Upward Stars Upstate White 15u Wade Hampton HS (Greenville) 2020
Brenegan 6’0 guard is the younger brother of Luke who just finished his career at Wade Hampton HS. Brenegan is constantly on the floor diving for loose balls or taking charges. Brenegan hit a few three pointers today while connecting on several mid-range jumpers. Brenegan scored 10 points in the win over Georgia Prospects Elite.
PJ Hall Upward Stars Upstate White 15U Dorman HS 2020
Hall 6’7 has had a great last few weeks on the AAU circuit. Hall keeps the ball high up when he rebounds it. Hall hit several baseline jumpers along with sticking some three pointers today on the offensive end. Hall will look to contribute to the Cavaliers roster this coming season.
