Adidas Invitational: 2019/2020 Stock Risers
The first live period is now over and we only have a couple more days until we are back on the road. Before that, we get underway with our reviews of the first period and those that stood out. Today, we are going to look at some of the guys who raised their stock from the Adidas Invitational this past week in Indianapolis. These are guys who might be deserving of a higher level of interest based on their play this last weekend.
Ozzie Johnson – 6’5 SF – 2019 – Horizon Christian (IN) | Indiana Elite Central 2019
Ozzie has really bloomed this summer. Much more bouncy, skilled, and strong than he ever has been. He’s a great athlete who can shoot it pretty well and has the ball handling to be a guy that can get to the rim at a great clip. He showed more athleticism that boosted his ability to be productive as a rebounder in the paint and with that he was finishing pretty well.
Rowen Ferrell – 6’2 SG – 2020 – McCutcheon (IN) | Indiana Elite Central 2020
Rowen has grown even since the spring and he is still just as good of a shooter, maybe better, than he was during the school season. With that new size, his ball handling has gotten rapidly better and he’s now using that to create along the perimeter and penetrate. He’s turned from a straight catch-and-shoot guy to one that can be an all-around scorer. Will need to see what steps he takes next.
Nate Soltis – 6’5 SF – 2019 – Cardinal Ritter (IN) | Indiana Elite Diesel 2019
Soltis has really been the best 2019 performer game in, game out this spring and summer. He always outplays the opposing team and is so much more physically dominant than others at his age level. Still a bit undersized at 6’5 but is a beast down in the paint and knows how to rebound and create space on the low block. Jumper is solid but could use it a bit more as his development continues.
Spencer Piercefield – 6’0 PG – 2019 – Center Grove (IN) | Indiana Elite Metro 2019
Spencer has been among the most consistent high performers this spring and summer. His ball handling has been the underrated part of his game. Obviously, his shooting is solid but he’s able to handle pressure and length decently well and he’s really distributed the ball well for a guy that is probably more offensive oriented right now.
Chris Grubbs – 6’5 SF – 2020 – Hamilton Southeastern (IN) | Indy Heat 2020 Black
Grubbs has been playing at a high level since the beginning of June. His spring AAU was solid but the play as of recently has been a notch better. More athletic and ball handling has taken off, allowing him to really showcase all of the skill he does have. Still not a great shooter yet but is really difficult to stop when he puts it on the floor.
