2020 Rankings Breakdown: Best Scorers
Now that we have finished analyzing “The Best of the Best” of the classes of 2018 and 2019, it’s now time to dive into the Class of 2020. At this stage–and it’s early–Compton Magic appears to have corralled the upper echelon of talent in the Class of 2020, led by Jaylen Clark, Johnny Juzang, and Evan Mobley.
For this particular blog, we’ll be looking at the best scorers in Southern California in the Class of 2020. The prospects listed below are gifted scorers from all three levels and can get a bucket during “clutch” time.
Top Five Scorers
5. Dominick Harris (Pacifica Christian/Dream Vision)
This 6-foot-2 bucket getter has a solid looking frame and ideal athleticism for the next level. The best way to describe his game is “volume scorer.” He does a nice job of attacking off the dribble by carrying defenders on his hip and changing speeds to get where he needs to go. While attacking the lane he can finish through contact or pull-up and nail the jump shot.
4. Clark Slajchert (Oak Park/Earl Watson Elite)
Slajchert is one of the most composed and tough-nosed guards in his class. He can nail the 3-point shot, convert pull-ups off the bounce, or toss in a runner. He can play either guard position and his savvy and IQ for the game is peerless.
3. D.J. Davis (Corona Centennial/Team Eleate)
One of the more fearless scorers in Southern California, regardless of class. At 5-foot-11 he projected for the 1 even though he “thinks” score rather than pass. He can blitz up the court, stop on a dime, and nail a 23-foot jump shot. In addition, he has the wheels to blow by his opponent and convert in the paint.
2. Josh Christopher (Mayfair/Cal Supreme)
Christopher, at 6-foot-4, is an opposing 2-guard despite only being a rising sophomore. The ultra-athletic finisher can leap over defenders at the rim utilizing his strength and bounce or pop in a 23-foot jump shot. His shot selection leaves a lot to be desired and he needs to be much more efficient, but he’s a talent.
1. Johnny Juzang (Compton Magic/Harvard Westlake)
Arguably one of the best scorers in Southern California, regardless of class. This long and lean wing-type has a knack to score from all three levels and he has range on his jump shot. He can convert jump shots off the dribble or the catch and his pull-up game is evolving. Not too mention he uses his long arms and dexterity to finish in the paint. Like all prospects, efficiency will be key going forward.
