2019 PG Jalen Nesmith talks move to Florida and more
Florida high school basketball is getting a talented young point guard in Jalen Nesmith.
The 6’0″, 155-pounder arrives at Bishop Snyder after playing at Cardinal Hayes in New York. Known as a talented ballhandler, Nesmith is an old school type athlete who has lived in New York his whole life.
His mom relocated to Jacksonville for her job. On top of that, Nesmith says he chose to play at Bishop Snyder because they offer outstanding academics. He’ll also be playing for Team CP25 this summer.
“The guys on the team are excited that I’m here and everyone wants to win,” Nesmith told Prep Hoops Florida. “In New York, I learned to be a hard worker and to bring my A game every practice and game.”
He joins a group that made it to the Class 4A region semifinal before losing 56-55 to P.K. Yonge. Leading scorer Corey Walker, a 2020 forward returns while Curtis Bailey (2018) and Chris Bailey (2019) are back in the fold as well. Nesmith gives this team an added dynamic in the backcourt.
Starting his basketball life at age 4, he calls his ability to get his teammates involved his biggest strength. He’s looking to improve his mid-range game and be the best leader he can be on and off the court.
No offers or interest have come for the rising junior point guard. That should change rather quickly playing at Bishop Snyder. Walker has been drawing a lot of attention this summer and I have a hunch that Nesmith is going to better everyone around him at his new spot.
