Prospect Spotlight: Giordan Williams (2019)
Long Beach Poly has been a traditional power in Southern California since biblical times, well not quite that long, but you get the picture. However, with the graduation of Rutgers-bound Myles Johnson and LMU-bound Zafir Williams, the Jackrabbits have some holes to fill.
Enter 6-foot-2 junior Giordan Williams.
Williams, who is ranked No. 40 in the prephoops.com Southern California rankings, is one piece of an impressive trio of perimeter prospects that also includes Division 1 point guard prospect 5-foot-8 Darryl Polk Jr. and 6-foot junior Justin Rene.
The Jackrabbits, under the tutelage of Head Coach Shelton Diggs, have a tradition of player development and Williams is the latest example. He’s a rangy 2-guard who impacts the game with his athleticism, IQ, defense, and an evolving scoring skill set.
“Since the end of the regular season, I’ve been working on my athleticism, ball handling versus pressure, and shooting.” explains Williams. “These are areas of the game that need to improve if I’m to receive college attention.”
It’s early on in the process, considering Williams is just entering his junior campaign, but there is one college that has shown interest thus far. “Portland State has been in contact with me, but I’m just starting the process–wherever God wants me to go, that’s where I’ll be headed.”
Due to the outstanding coaching staff at Long Beach Poly and Williams diligent work ethic, look for him to continue the tradition of college-bound athletes for this storied program.
