Wendell Moore Named to Team USA
The top overall prospect in the PrepHoopsNC class of 2019, Wendell Moore has been named to the Team USA U16 team. Moore spent the past few days in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the United States Olympic Training Center trying out with 32 other players and learning today that he was named one of the 12 to the travel team that will play in the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship June 14-18 in Argentina.
Moore along with Scottie Barnes, Vern Carey, Jalen Green, RJ Hampton, De’Vion Harmon, Zion Harmon, Jeremy Roach, Jalen Suggs, Isaiah Todd, Romeo Weems and James Wiseman were named to the 12-man roster. Moore had this to say about being selected, “Making the team has always been one of my life-long dreams as a player and for it to come true was huge. I don’t think I have ever been more excited to hear my name called ever.”
Moore recently helped lead Cox Mill High School to the NCHSAA 3-A state championship as a sophomore and was named as the North Carolina High School Player of the Year by the Associated Press. Moore is playing on the Nike EYBL circuit with Team CP3 and is the youngest player ever awarded a scholarship by North Carolina head coach Roy Williams. He also has offers from Wake Forest, Duke and Maryland among others.
Jody Barbee, Moore’s head coach at Cox Mill High School said, “We are excited for Wendell for making the roster. This is a huge accomplishment for him and we know that he will perform at a high level for our country. How many 15 year olds win a state championship, be named State Player of the Year. 1st team All-American and All-State and then make Team USA in a matter to two months. It’s really impressive what he has accomplished at such a young age and his is just getting started. This is an honor for him and our program!”
