UL Team Camp: Scouting Reports (Guards)
2018
Parker Edwards 6’3 St. Paul’s
Edwards looked good with the ball in his hands as the team’s full time point guard after splitting the duties Timothy Bedford last season. He was as deadly as ever from deep, and did a better job of facilitating the ball than I anticipated.
Isaiah Rollins 6’2 Northside
Rollins did a good job of getting to the goal against Karr, and used his solid frame to finish around size. He also showed off a reliable shooting touch from deep, and was the best player in the game.
Tyrece Radford 6’0 McKinley
It looks like this year is going to be the Tyrece Radford show at McKinley once again, but you can already tell they have a fatal flaw. Not a single person on their team could shoot from outside of 15 ft., so all of Radford’s driving lanes were clogged up.
Ferontay Banks 6’0 Comeaux
Banks is at his best in transition, when he is able to zoom up and down the court and show off his incredible quickness. However, Comeaux likes to slow things down and play in the half-court, so he isn’t able to really show his true potential.
Jude Joseph 5’10 St. Thomas More
Joseph played as well as I’ve seen him play this weekend, getting to the rim and finishing tough layups. He converted multiple and-one’s, and gave his team a lot of energy during a comeback win over Walker. If he can play this well, it gives St. Thomas More a much higher ceiling than anticipated.
Eli Mouton 5’10 Ascension
For the first time, Mouton is playing without 6’4 forward Ronald LeBlanc in the middle, and is somehow responsible for even more of what Ascension does on both ends of the court. Mouton looked good on the court, but it is going to be tough for them to play well as a team.
2019
Trey Blanchard 6’0 Hathaway
Blanchard is a strong lead guard that can score off penetration or knock down open shots. He has a high IQ guard, and does a good job of finding teammates in the open court. Hard nosed defender that guards the other team’s best player.
2020
Jalen Cook 6’0 Walker
Cook is the odds on favorite as the best player for the class of 2020, and he showed why this weekend. He finished well at the rim over size, and was able to knock down shots from the outside. Where he really impressed me was on the defensive end where he was able to get a lot of stops and steals which allowed them to get out in transition.
