UL Team Camp: Day 1 Preview
Every year, one of the last high profile team camps is the one put on at UL Lafayette, as this usually marks the end of a grueling month of summer ball. Team’s are finally starting to put together their identity heading into next season, and they are beginning to slowly take the shape that they will look next year. We will be previewing the first day of games for the team camp.
Carencro vs. St. Paul
This game is going to have a ton of talent, as most of the best players from both teams last year will still be around. Carencro should have the best player in this game in 2018 F Braylon Chaisson, but St. Paul’s will most likely have the next three best players in 2018 G Parker Edwards, F Chandler Owenby, and F Devonte Allen.
Peabody vs. McKinley
This is going to be a battle between two Top 28 teams from last year. I expect McKinley to still rely heavily on 2018 G Tyrece Radford, and as he get further away from the ankle injury he had last season, the better he will be. I expect Peabody to still look a little rough around the edges after losing Cedric Russell from last year’s team, but I expect 2019 G Darius Smith to pick up a lot of that slack.
STM vs. Walker
I expect this game to be a battle of guards, as STM relies heavily on 2018 G Jonathan Cisse, and Walker will be relying heavily on 2020 G Jalen Cook. I give the edge to Walker, because they also have 2018 F Jalen Perkins as a good second punch.
Comeaux vs. U-High
I expect this game to be a heavyweight bout, as both of these teams are returning their most talented players from last years really good teams. Comeaux is going to be spearheaded by 2018 Devaughn Thomas and Ferontay Banks, as well as the 7 other seniors that lead this team. For U-High, they are returning their guard tandem in Spencer Mays and Eric Reed Jr.
Hamilton Christian vs. Breaux Bridge
This game might be a little lower on most people’s wishlist, but there is still a lot that intrigues me about this match-up. Hamilton Christian was a Top 28 team last season, but they have lost the cornerstones of their team last year, so I’m not sure what their identity is going to be. For Breaux Bridge, last season was a bit of a down year, but rumor has it that they have a 6’8 sophomore that they will be heavily relying on, so I am interested in seeing how that goes.
