Summer League Standouts: Monday Night
On Monday night, the tuneup before the SEBA playoffs went down at Berkeley Prep.
Joining the Buccaneers in action was Tampa Catholic, Hillsborough, Bloomingdale, Seffner Christian and Plant.
Here are some of the standout players I saw from the session.
Darren Robinson (Tampa Catholic)
No one more 3’s on the night than Crusaders guard Darren Robinson. He hit most of his open looks as Tim Carter and Messiah Turner created space for the spot up shooter. Robinson looked very good.
Alijah Harrison (Tampa Catholic)
There isn’t a single player that can do what Kevin Knox did the past three seasons for Tampa Catholic, but rising sophomore Alijah Harrison is playing that role. He was connecting on outside jumpers, driving to the rack often and getting his teammates involved. Harrison is the best inside presence they have.
Tim Carter/Messiah Turner (Tampa Catholic)
Both 2018 starting guards performed well as the main ballhandlers for Tampa Catholic. They pushed the tempo in fastbreak situations and helped dish it out more often than not. With Tai Strickland at St. Pete, Carter and Turner will be counted upon as the backcourt leaders.
Zion Carter (Berkeley Prep)
Rising junior Zion Carter is beginning to play more aggressively. His teammates count on him to make open looks inside and create havoc. Carter is an emerging player at 6’7″ and can be someone who turns a lot of heads this season.
Kaleb Karnes/Kegan Karnes (Berkeley Prep)
Both Karnes brothers, Kaleb (2018) and Kegan (2020) can make 3-pointers with ease. Kegan is a very good catch and shoot guy while Kaleb can explode to the basket on a drive often. The Karnes brothers are smart players that Berkeley Prep will lean on in the backcourt.
Myles Hyatt (Berkeley Prep)
Hyatt is that tweener type player who can line up at shooting guard or small forward. The Bucs use the rising senior out on the wing and he has proven that he has good vision as a passer in sets and in transition.
Logan Morrissey/Dylan Wilson (Plant)
A pair of 2018 guards, Morrissey and Wilson were the top playmakers for Plant on the night. Morrissey is a strong outside shooter and a player with a high IQ. Wilson is back on the Panthers squad after sitting out last season. He has a balanced game that includes plenty of attacking.
Warren Mclymont (Hillsborough)
The 2019 forward came over from Tampa Bay Tech and that is big for the Terriers. Mclymont is going to earn plenty of time on the court for this young Hillsborough group. He was a bully in the paint and isn’t afraid to put his body on the line to get buckets.
Isaiah Reed (Seffner Christian)
Seffner Christian played without three starters Darius Hopkins, Khalil Waleed and Cornelius Bobo. That paved way for 2021 guard Isaiah Reed to run the point often. Although, he is very little, he wasn’t afraid of the big stage. Against Tampa Catholic, he wasn’t caught off guard and found a way to make some key 3’s.
Mikey Kusz (Bloomingdale)
It has been a rough go for a new look Bloomingdale team this summer, but Rusz, a rising senior guard has served as a core leader throughout. He’s a polished shooter and a guy who finds a way to get everyone involved.
