SLC Shootout Top Performers
This past weekend was the first annual SLC Shootout. There was tons of talent on display from D1 level players down to D3 level talent. I’m going to touch on some standouts that I saw during the tournament.
Jason Ricketts 6–6 Wing 2018 (Juan Diego) is a do it all type of forward/wing. He has all of his skills on display at the SLC Shootout as he showed his ability to score in the paint and create for others. Ricketts has the ability to lead the fast break and is very dangerous in transition. His shooting still needs some work but he is one of the best players in Utah from the class of 2018.
Andre Mulibea 6-3 Guard 2020 (East) is a physical specimen for being an incoming sophomore. I was really impressed with his defense as he proved to be a lock-down defender. I was also very impressed with his play-making skills. Mulibea spent a lot of time playing the point and was able to get his team into offense and made some good passes. He might be the top 2020 prospect in the state of Utah.
Matt Kitzman 6-2 Guard 2018 (Juan Diego) is a very solid combo guard that does a lot of things very well. To go along with his all-around game, Kitzmans basketball IQ is off the charts. He is always making the right play and is a very good defender which I think can translate to the next level.
Max Watson 6-4 Guard 2018 (Box Elder) probably played better than anyone else at the SLC Shootout. He has some games where he got extremely hot from the three and his mid-range. Watson has an excellent pull-up game and is able to raise above defenders. I was impressed at how competitive of a player Watson is and he has the will to win. I think he a great D2 prospect that could do very well on that level.
Davis High School has been impressive all summer and went 7-0 in route to the SLC Shootout championship. They have several college prospects that I could of included but I decided to talk about their team. Davis has a chance at winning the 6A state championship this coming year. I only have Lone Peak and Pleasant Grove ahead of them right now. Coach Sims will have his best shot at a title this coming year and Davis will be a team to watch.
