Recruiting Report: Yuri Swinford (2018)
Yuri Swinford – 6’4” | G/F | Horizon Christian Academy | Class of 2018
Yuri Swinford is a rare player in the 2018 Class. He does a little bit of everything and has the potential to go for a triple-double on any given night. As the leader for Horizon Christian Academy, he gets put into many situations where he has to make plays. He is working on this skill set while playing for Arrington Elite during the AAU season as well.
“I try to do what I have to do to help us win.” The spring session has been going well for Swinford and Arrington Elite as he has put together some good games to lead them to some big wins.
Swinford is a long, athletic guard with a good feel for the game. He rebounds at an elite rate for his position. His slashing game is more natural than his catch and shoot game but he has been working on his outside shooting the past few years.
He brings an edge to whichever team he plays on and is always out to win. When it comes to playing with Arrington Elite, this is what Yuri thought he added, “rebounding and being aggressive on offense mostly.”
Yuri plays to the strengths of his game which are his athleticism and aggressiveness on both ends of the ball. He’s coming off his junior season with Horizon Christian Academy in which he averaged 9.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 4.1 steals per game. His versatility and work ethic are two attributes that have stood out in games and practices.
Horizon Christian is adding more games to their schedule as they try to develop a standard moving forward. They are also working to get added to the King James Classic Tournament as they will be a top team in the state next season.
“I’m going to play at the next level. I’ve gotten a couple inquiries from Eastern Illinois and Morehead State. Strong interest and potential offer coming from Goshen College.” Swinford has not yet reached his potential but he is starting to recognize how he can impact the game in every aspect and stat column.
When it comes to a collegiate program, Yuri is looking for somewhere that is going to continue pushing him to become a better player on the court as well as person off the court. “The location and environment has to be great and very family oriented.”
With the numbers that Yuri produced last season, he is one to keep an eye on as a wing player in the 2018 class. His length, athleticism, and increasing basketball IQ are showing with his play.
