Recruiting Report: Trey Hinote (2019)
Expect Greene County 2019 Trey Hinote to be one of the state’s best scorers next season.
The 6-foot-1 guard was already one of the best scorers in the state, and he’s been working this offseason to improve how and where he makes shots.
“I’m mostly just working on my pull-up game, like from the elbows. That’s what my dad’s been pushing me to work on, and that’s about all I do anymore at the gym, said Hinote. “I was mostly a spot-up shooter, but now that Trey (Tucker) is gone, I‘m going to have a different role.”
Hinote averaged 15.2 points per game last season as a sophomore with the Rams, and once again has impressed on the grassroots circuit with Iowa Cornsharks Select.
Still, his recruitment has remained somewhat underwhelming. But Hinote is not panicking, nor should he, he’s still got two years for college coaches to recognize he’s one of Iowa’s best talents.
“I’ve just gotten a few letters here and there, but no phone calls. I’ve gotten one (letter) from Augustana (SD), and another from a Missouri school, but I can’t remember what it’s called,” said Hinote.
“I’m not too worried about it yet, I’ve still got two years basically. Next year will be huge, and as long as we win games, I know it (recruitment) will come.”
This spring with the ‘Sharks, Hinote says things wen OK.
“We won a lot of games, so that was good, and I kind of had a rough start, but I picked it up towards the end,” he said.
But that Cornsharks team will not play together this summer, and as of now, Hinote has no exact plans to play with another team.
He’ll work on his hoops skills on his own time, in between preparing himself for his junior season of football.
“We got a new football coach, and he’s got me a little stronger and quicker,” said Hinote, who plays wide-receiver and defensive back
“Basketball is number one, but I’m not terrible at football. I don’t consider one to be over the other, but I definitely spend more time playing basketball.”
