Recruiting Report: Oddyst Walker (2018)
Former Parkview Baptist and current 50th-ranked 2018, Oddyst Walker, will play his senior with Dunham, he recently told PHLA.
The 6-foot-2 combo-guard says exposure and the opportunity to win a state title is what lured him to his new school.
“The potential on the team is really high, and I can’t wait for the season to start. And my role on the team will to just be me,” said Walker.
“The coach made it clear when I came in that I’m a really good player and he just wants me to be me; scoring, leadership and just making the team better.”
Walker feels like he’s flying a bit under the radar up to this stage of his career, and has some D2 and D3 interest, but nothing too serious.
“It’s just interest fight now, some D2, some D3, some JuCo, and that’s pretty much it; Aurora University (IL), Barry University (FL), schools like that. Those are the two schools that have the most interest in me,” said Walker.
A self-described “dog” on the floor, Walker defined his playing style — strengths and weaknesses — to PHLA.
“I’m a very competitive person. I’m very competitive on the floor, I get after it. Being from Louisiana, you got to have a little junkyard dog in you, and I have that in me when I’m on the floor,” he said.
“I can run the floor well, I’m vocal when I’m on the floor, I’m a leader. One of my weaknesses is my defense, and I have a lot to work a lot with that.”
This past spring, during his 17U season, Walker played with Louisiana Future. He’s looking to play with an additional team this summer.
“I’m currently looking for another AAU team right now, but I’m currently playing with Louisiana Future. I just want to get some more games in and expose myself more,” said Walker.
The other goal for the summer? — to break out.
“I feel like I’m better than most people that are ranked ahead of me, to be honest. So, I just want to go out there and prove that,” said Walker.
“I want this to be my breakout summer, and I want to prove myself in front of coaches. And I believe I can do it.”
