Recruiting Report: Naseer Turner (2018)
Kenwood 2018 small forward Naseer Turner is a projectable wing that has a long and lanky frame with broad shoulders. Didn’t get a ton of tick for his high school team last year, but is making noise with the Chicago Demons on the grassroots circuit. Turner does most of his damage in the lane. Quickness around the hoop. Finishes well in the paint. Should continue to get better at that once he adds on strength. Struggles shooting it from the perimeter. Displayed improved feel passing it especially in the drive and kick game when we recently evaluated him. Solid rebounding it in traffic. Turner should be on the Low-major D1/High level D2 radar.
How was his junior year at Kenwood?
“Overall it went pretty well. I think I did ok. As a team I think we could have gone further than we did. Overall I feel I improved on my wing skills. I am implementing that more into my game now. Once I get by defenders I raise above them.”
His defense is becoming a bigger weapon in his game.
“We have to lockdown. I don’t back down. I use my athleticism and foot speed and stay in front of my man.”
Turner broke down the spring with the Chicago Demons including a huge win over a UAA team that we saw in person.
“Spring is going good so far. We won a couple tournaments. We got a big win against 1Nation at Battle at the Lakes.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have interest from Tulsa, Drake, and South Dakota. Still have the offer from Kent State.”
Kent State is the first school to extend an offer to the Kenwood small forward.
“I love Kent State. When I went down there it was a real family vibe. I like how they went hard in practice. That is one thing they took seriously. They play hard in practice to make the games easier. I like that a lot.”
He says a pair of other schools are coming at him aggressively.
“Right now Drake is really looking at me. Also Tulsa. I am probably going to visit Drake sometime soon.”
Drake is intriguing to Turner.
“The coaching staff knows how to connect. They have a good family vibe. That is one thing that Drake has done.”
Tulsa will be following him during the evaluation period.
“They have been hitting me up a lot. They said they are going to come down and see me in the July period.”
What will some key factors in a school for Turner?
“One thing that is important is going somewhere I feel I can make an impact in whatever way that may be. Also winning as well.”
