Recruiting Report: Kaleb Cresswell (2018)
A summer stock-riser in Iowa’s 2018 class, For Madison point guard Kaleb Cresswell has been good every time we’ve seen him this offseason with Iowa Pump ‘N Run.
It’s not just us at Prep Hoops that have noticed, the skilled 5-foot-9 floor general has been seeing some college interest come in.
“This summer for me, I feel like I’ve put the pieces together, so I’m starting to get colleges to notice me,” said Cresswell.
“I got a couple schools interested in me, but I haven’t gotten a whole lot. Dordt College is an NAIA school recruiting me pretty well. Clarke has been kind of interested, messaging my dad a lot and send a lot of mail. Macalester College in Minnesota is a D3 that’s been recruiting me a lot too.”
The slick lead guard says that playing within the Pump ‘N Run organization has done wonders fro his skill level and recruitment.
“Fort Madison is not a big school, so you don’t get a whole lot of recruitment out of that. So that’s one huge reason why I play Pump ‘n Run, is so I can be in front of the best players in the state and kind of prove myself,” said Cresswell.
Iowa’s 89th-ranked 2018, Cresswell went on to define his skill-set in his own words to PHIA.
“I think my IQ is really high and my handles are alright, I’m not much of an ‘I’m going to break your ankles type player,’ I just know how to get to a spot on the floor where I can hit shots,” he said.
“Shooting is one of of my biggest strengths, I shot a high-percentage during the season from 3. So I’d definitely say IQ and shooting, like knowing when to pass and when to shoot, are some of my strengths.”
Last season with the Bloodhounds, Cresswell was good, going for 14.7 points on some terrific shooting, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
“I felt I played really well. My role on the team was to score a lot, and for the most part my main goal was to make open shots when I had them and facilitate to teammates,” he said. “I had the ball in my hands a lot, so I was one of our key playmakers.”
This summer will be a big one for Cresswell, and as he continues to lead Pump N Run Black, he’ll try and turn his interest into offers.
“This summer with Pump ‘N Run has been awesome, the coaching staff is unreal, they’ve really helped me take my game to the next level,” ” said Cresswell.
“I’ve been working a lot on attacking the rim, that’s been a problem for me and I’ve really been focusing on that this spring and summer.”
