Recruiting Report: Josh LeBlanc (2018)
He might be just now exploding onto the national scene, but if you have been watching basketball in Louisiana for a while, then you should know the name Josh LeBlanc. The 6’7 forward has been dominating the LHSAA with Madison Prep and the Under Armour Assosiation (UAA) with Louisiana Elite for years. The talent and size has always been there, and the only reason that he has just begun to pop up on national radars is because he spent last summer sidelined by a foot injury, so he wasn’t able to perform at the highest level. However, this year he has come out with a vengence. Through three UAA sessions, he is currently leading LA Elite in points, rebounds, and blocks, and he is top five in the nation in some advanced stats suchs as wins added. He is now considered a consensus top 100 player in the country.
When you see that he is only listed at 6’7, you might think that he is a bit undersized for the next level, but he more than has the wingspan to make up for it. He possesses a 7’ wingspan, and his broad shoulders show that he is capable of putting on even more weight in the future. This in combination with his incredible athleticism show why college coaches are drooling over his potential. While at the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions in Missouri last fall, LeBlanc won the slam dunk competition by putting down a dunk between his legs. All of these factors would be enough to get a lot of college coaches interested, but what really separates Josh is his work ethic. He is a relentless worker both on and off the court, and it doesn’t look like his motor is ever taking a break. Next season it looks like Madison Prep will be playing mostly through the post in Josh LeBlanc and Kobe Julien, for the first time in recent memory, and that is just fine with Josh. “I see the floor well, and I am good at making the right plays on the court. I consider myself a floor general for us.”
When we spoke with Josh last week, he told us that he was up to 18 offers thus far, and he has since added an offer from Cincinnati, bringing his offer total up to 19 so far. He tells us that he has been talking the most with Texas A&M as of late speaking with him everyday, with LSU, UAB, Minnesota, and Georgetown closely behind. He tells Prep Hoops Lousiana that he is looking for “a great fit and a good situation for myself personally. I want a coach that will really care about me outside of the game of basketball.” He also told us that he plans to start cutting down his list in July, and that he wants to commit sooner rather than later.
