Recruiting Report: Hunter White (2018)
Hunter White – 6’2” | PG | Indianapolis Tindley | Class of 2018
Hunter White is exploding onto the scene following a stellar junior season with Indianapolis Tindley in which he averaged 16.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. That production is translating as he is putting up big numbers with Team Blaze on the AAU circuit.
“Summer is going well. My AAU Team, Team Blaze, finished first in the NY2LA Association.” White has been leading both of his teams from the point guard position. He has great court awareness and is aggressive with the ball in his hands.
White is one of those players who does whatever it takes to win and will outwork everyone in the gym no matter what. He is quick with the basketball in his hands and sees the floor well when he’s pushing it on the break. He’s smooth getting into the lane and finishing at the rim or dumping it off to a big for an easy finish.
“My biggest strength is my ability to get to the basket at will.” Not only can he get to the basket, he has a mid-range finishing game, ability to finish through contact, and court vision to make the correct passes in traffic. “I’m running the point for both teams, handling the offense for both.”
Now that high school ball is in full swing in the month of June, White talked a little about his role with Tindley and their summer schedule.
“We have been to U of Indy for a team camp and went 2-1 and Xavier and went 2-1.” Indianapolis Tindley has arguably one of the best backcourts in the state with White and Hunter. The two are dynamic scorers with the ability to score from all three level.
White has been working on expanding his game and increasing his confidence in the off-season. “I have been working on my three-point shooting. I’m looking to improve this for both teams.” When he becomes a knock-down shooter, he will be one of the hardest point guards to guard in the state.
Indianapolis Tindley has a chance to repeat as State Champions, especially if Hunter keeps improving on his skills. His jumper is already showing improvement in the spring session and his defensive footwork is also looking better.
“I have been contacted by many schools. I’ve been on unofficial visits to Western Illinois, IPFW, and Easter Illinois. I have not been able to visit Denver but they probably keep in contact with me the most right now. Them and Western Illinois.”
Height, length, speed, and a high basketball IQ is a lethal combination at the point guard position and Hunter White is taking full advantage. Keep a close eye on White as he enters his senior season and continues to show that he is ready for the next level.
