Recruiting Report: Gordon Gibson (2018)
Gordon Gibson, a class of 2018 big man at Bethesda-Chevy Chase, appears ready for a breakout junior season. The 6’8 forward recorded 23 points on 9 of 13 from the field along with five blocks and six rebounds in a BSN Summer League win over The Potomac School on Thursday. He more than held his own in a head to head matchup with Panthers big man Devon Flowers.
“I think I’m sort of like a stretch big. I can stretch the floor, shoot jump shots if I need to or go down low if I have a mismatch,” Gibson explained. “I’ve been playing for three, close to four years now. Starting in summer of seventh grade. Before I couldn’t shoot. Everybody always just put me in the post. Recently I’ve developed my outside game.”
Gibson was the second leading scorer for BCC last year as a junior. With the departure of their leading scorer, Gibson understands that in order for his team to succeed, he will need to step up.
“I wanna be a leader. sort of get everybody where they need to be. Tell everybody where they need to go. Make my team the best that they can be,” said Gibson. “I need to work on free throws. And just sort of being a more consistent player. Some nights I’d have 20. Others ten, and some single digits.”
Gibson says he has a 3.35 unweighted GPA, and a 3.95 weighted. Right now Washington College and Oberlin are the only two schools recruiting him.
“Definitely my rebounding. Boxing out,” Gibson said when asked what he thinks is an underrated part of his game. “Sort of moving guys out of the paint so that my team can go get boards.”
Gibson has set two intermediate goals – one for the summer, and one for high school season. His goal for the summer is just to get better, and his goal for the high school season is to win as many games as possible. What can he bring to a college program?
“I can bring my height which is a good thing. If I keep on improving my shooting I can be a stretch big for anybody.”
