Recruiting Report: Gervon Dexter (2020)
2020 forward Gervon Dexter is a really big kid.
At 6’8″, 228 lbs., Dexter started as a freshman for Lake Wales this past season. He says he had to mature fast and because of that, he became a leader.
Dexter is running with Thunderstruck this summer, a program he’s been with for four years.
“I’m very focused on maintaining my work ethic and have picked up a spot of interest so far. I’ve been running with Thunderstruck for four years now it’s just loyalty and where I feel comfortable playing coach Jenkins has done nothing but been completely honest and is a great mentor on and off the court.”
He also spends time with Nike Team Florida where he joined them for session two of the EYBL season.
Dexter started playing basketball at age 6. He says his biggest strength is his size, quickness and ability to guard all five positions. He’s aiming to improve his 3-point shot, mid-range jumper and ballhandling.
No offers have come yet for Dexter, but he’s drawn interest from Louisiana-Monroe, UNF, Miami, Rutgers, Georgia Southern and Lincoln Memorial.
When I first saw Dexter play earlier this summer at the E1T1 Invitational in Orlando I thought he was much older. His size plays a trick on your eyes. He is tall and strong and isn’t afraid to be aggressive inside. Dexter is in for a big sophomore campaign at Lake Wales. He’s a 2020 forward with endless upside.
