Recruiting Report: Ferontay Banks (2018)
There are very few basketball players in Louisiana that can beat 6’0 PG Ferontay Banks of Comeaux in a foot race with the ball in his hands, and in a state with the athletes that Louisiana has, that is saying something.
Ferontay had a solid junior season, as the third scoring option for one of the most talented teams in the state at Comeaux, and he knows that he is going to have to step up this year. “I know that next year I’m going to have to score more, and that I am going to have to be a more vocal leader.” With the departure of 6’9 Jordan Foster to Lamar University this season, the success of Comeaux is going to be largely dependent on Ferontay and 6’7 F Devaughn Thomas, with help coming from 2020 G Tre’ Harris. Comeaux is going to be very experienced squad, with 8 seniors on the team, and only two underclassmen playing varsity. The Spartans have looked good this summer, and look to be one of the top teams in the state once again this season.
Ferontay has chosen to play this spring and summer with New Orleans Basketball Club, in their innaugural season. He played last season on Elfrid Payton Elite of the EYBL, but after they decided not to have a 17u squad this season, he decided to give the Powerade Platform a shot, and their record speaks for itself. NOBC is 8-4 on the Platform, good for the third best record, and Ferontay has been playing very well for them off the bench, averaging 7.4 PPG, 4.0APG, and 1.7SPG.
As a result of his play, college coaches are starting to reach out for his talents. He reports to have gotten offers to Southeastern and Houston, and says that he has been talking the most to Southeastern and Northwestern St. the most. Ferontay says that as far as the next level goes, he is going to go with “the one that likes me more, and the one that will give me the best opportunity for playing time.”
