Recruiting Report: Dywan Griffin (2019)
Despite only being open since 2014, few can argue over the stamp that Landry-Walker has already left on Louisiana basketball. They have won three out of the possible state titles in that time, and their point guard play has been a big reason for that. They have already sent three point guards to division 1 (Tyree Griffin to Oklahoma St., Lamar Peters to Mississippi St., and Lamont Berzat to UNO), and 5’11 Dywan Griffin is next up for the Chargin’ Bucs.
“It means a lot to me to be the next PG in line. Just by watching the guys that attended Landry-Walker, like Tyree Griffin and Lamar Peters in the things they did here, I believe that I can fill their shoes,” Dywan said. And he has already done a pretty good job. As just a sophomore this passed season he was crowned MVP of the title game, totaling 24 points on the way to a state title. And though he acknowledges the accompishment, he knows he still has a long way to go. “Well that was great, but I’m still improving my game and still getting better. Although we won this big trophy, there’s still more that can be accomplished.”
Dywan describes his strengths as “creating for myself and others off the dribble and getting to the goal. I am also a great defender.” He has been playing up for New Orleans Elite on their 17u squad, and sees his role on both his AAU team and high school team being the same. “Well I don’t really see a difference in the two but this summer I have been playing a big role such as being the floor general, getting others involved, and just being me.”
Despite not receiving any offers as of yet, he has gotten a lot of interest from some big time schools after playing well on the Adidas Circuit. “Baylor, Southern Mississippi, Auburn, Sam Houston State, Mississippi, and Seton Hall all called my coach last weekend.” Dywan says that he still isn’t sure what type of school he is looking for at the next level, but says that there is still a lot of time for that decision to be made. Dywan has a 3.0 and hasn’t taken the ACT yet.
