Tri-Village point guard Dillon McCullough (2018) showed great glimpses of potential last season during the high school season and looks to continue his success into next year. Dillon is currently playing AAU for Advanced Game in Dayton.
Dillon’s greatest strength on the basketball court is how he plays like a true point guard. “I feel when things get crazy and we need someone to calm us down and get in a set or get a good shot I feel I’m that guy”. He picked an excellent time last year to show off this trait during a close district title victory over Jackson Center. The game ended up in overtime, but several times near the end of a tight game, Dillon would reset Tri-Village’s offense and get them refocused. He did the same thing in their regional semifinal loss to Cincinnati Christian a few days later. What makes this even more impressive is he handled this pressure and responsibility as a junior. This experience will help lead him forward during high school season.
Dillon also possesses great court vision and has no issue making the extra pass to a teammate to make them better. “I think playing unselfish is a lost art and I think I still bring that to the table each game”. Don’t just take my word for it. Dillon’s AAU coach DJ McCommons, a former point guard himself sees the passion and talent Dillon has. “He doesn’t back down from anyone and is always wanting to see his teammates score…He loves getting assists”.
The areas in Dillon’s game where he wants to improve is shooting and toughness. Specifically, he wants to improve in his catch and shoot 3 point shots. In regards to toughness, Dillon is tall for a point guard, standing 6’3” and tells me, “I want to maybe post up a little more on smaller guards”. If he can improve on this trait alone, Dillon could easily be a 1st-Team all CCC next season.
Dillon’s goal going forward is to win a CCC title, however this season he will be wearing a different uniform than last. He is transferring over to Tri-County North for his senior season where he will likely be the top player. Playing for in-conference opponent Tri-Village the last two seasons definitely will help Dillon moving forward, and should give him the confidence to be one of the top point guards in the conference.
Dillon has not received any official offers yet, but has had interest from multiple D2/D3/ and NAIA schools. His dream school is Indiana Wesleyan but he will be honored to play anywhere where he is given an opportunity. Keep an eye on Dillon next year with Tri-County North and I predict he will 1st-Team all CCC.
