Recruiting Report: Diante Smith (2019)
Diante Smith was the top dog for Choctawhatchee this past season as a sophomore.
The 2019 forward averaged 14.9 points per game as the Indians finished 26-3 and in the Class 7A region final. Smith was one of three sophomores in the top four in terms of scoring. Josh Williams and Bobby Sanders Jr. were the others.
At 6’6″, 190 lbs., Smith has been drawing a lot of attention as of late with his AAU team 1Family. He’s been with the program for two years. He’s aiming to get more recognition and win a lot of games on the Adidas Gauntlet.
In terms of what Choctawhatchee was able to do, he is proud of his group.
“This past season was a great one being young and making it far as we did,” Smith told Prep Hoops Florida. “What I learned the most was to not force things and let the game come to me. I saw my defensive game has improved the most. The role I have to play this year is being a leader and scoring the ball more consistently.”
Starting his basketball life at age 4, Smith points to his versatility and ability to create mismatches as his biggest strengths. He’s looking to improve his shooting and to get lower while dribbling.
Currently, Smith has five offers from FGCU, St. John’s, Southeastern Louisiana, FIU and South Alabama.
He’s also garnering interest from UF, FSU, Louisville, Miami, Georgia, Auburn, Kansas State and UAB.
Smith put his name on the map last year. Expect him to continue his progression. He’s going to be a hot commodity this summer and fall with his mix of size and speed. His stock is on the rise at the Division I level.
