Recruiting Report: Darien Simmons (2018)
Darien Simmons, a class of 2018 guard at Capitol Christian, is ready for a breakout senior campaign after spending last season in the Philadelphia Catholic League at Conwell Egan. The talented combo guard appears ready to emerge from his status as a sleeper.
“I’m a 2 way player and a leader vocally and physically,” said Simmons, a native of Landover. “I motivate my teammates to play hard. I get in my teammates ear and tell them nobody can do what they do.”
Simmons clearly possesses the ideal intangibles coaches look for in a lead guard. He is a hard worker both on and off the court.
“The most improved aspect of my game is my pull up and catch and shoot jumper. I put in so many hours over the season and after up to this point to get to where I’m at now and it’s a big jump,” Simmons explained. “The part of my game I need to work on next is my conditioning, late game scoring, and going to continue to improve my jump shot.”
Simmons, who is running on the AAU circuit with Team Takeover Grey, has a 3.2 GPA, and is a target of Ivy and Patriot League types.
“I’ve received interest from Holy Cross, bowling green, Columbia, Colgate, Montclair state, Liberty U, Slippery Rock, Chestnut hill, and a lot more d2 and d3.”
What can Simmons bring to a college program?
“I feel like I can bring a never back down attitude toward a team and just bring energy to a program and energy towards whatever it is the coach needs me to do.”
