Recruiting Report: Cole Gendreau (2018)
Five-foot-11 Bismarck St. Mary’s athlete Cole Gendreau stands 5-foot-10 and plays point guard for the hoops team and quarterback/safety for the football teams. He’s being looked at for both sports.
The Saints finished the year 11-14 last winter and completed the season winning four of their last seven games. For St. Mary’s it was a solid year.
“I grew to be a better teammate, I learned how to play in positions my team needed me to whether it was passing, scoring, or playing defense,” Cole told Prep Hoops.
“The experience I will remember most is just going out there and playing basketball with some of my closest friends.”
Cole averaged 18.1 points. 4.6 assists, four rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game this past season. It was a great year but Cole wants to improve on his three-point shooting after hitting a quarter of his attempts as a junior.
“I want to be a more consistent outside shooter and hope to work on my shot this summer,” Gendreau said.
Cole is playing with the North Dakota Phenom this spring and summer and the competition of the Battle at the Lakes event, Sanford Basketball League, the NY2LA event and others have challenged his team.
“They have challenged me to play in a different style of offense, and I’ve learned to play to my advantages and to fit in where my team needs me,” Cole said.
Cole will play a college sport but isn’t sure exactly what sport yet.
“I am undecided on whether I want play basketball or football yet and I’ve been talking to a few different schools,” Cole said. “I’m hearing from U of Mary and Minnesota State-Moorhead.”
This summer Cole plans to stay active on the court.
“This summer I’m working on my outside shot and playing a lot of basketball.”
