Recruiting Report 2019: DeJean Desire
DeJean Desire, 6’6″, WG/WF, 2019. Georgetown Prep HS Rockville, MD.
Grassroots Team, DC Blue Devils 16 & U.
This coming season Georgetown Prep has the potential to crack the top 10 rankings in the loaded Washington, DC basketball rankings. The Little Hoyas are loaded with explosive athletes and DeJean is one of them. He plays with great hustle, determination and has an edge to his games coaches covet. DeJean says,” I am defensive player 1st and I take great pride in playing hard nosed defense. I always want to guard the opponents best player and take him out of his game disrupting the opposition as whole.”
DeJean does not look like a sophomore, and he is very well built and strong. We saw him battle for rebounds with ferocity and utilizing a very explosive quick 1st and second leaps at the DeMatha BSN summer league. It is very obvious DeJean is blessed with excellent fast twitch muscle fibers. Despite his athleticism DeJean says,” I workout hard with strength, conditioning and agility training 3 days a week. I train for explosive strength and some movements include dead lifts and squats, but with very strict from. Additionally, I utilize plyometrics 2 times each week. I am trying very hard to maintain a high protein diet and make sure I am replenished after hard workouts with recovery drinks and food.”
We see a great upside with DeJean who shows flashes in all areas of basketball and he says.” I consider myself a high energy player that can slash. I am a good rebounder and I will do the dirty work or intangibles needed to get a win.” This summer DeJean works on basketball drills almost daily and says, ” I want to improve my ball handling and extend my range. I just want to be the best possible player I can.”
In the classroom DeJean is an excellent student carrying a 3.2 GPA and says, ” In college I would like to major in finance.”
Georgetown Prep finished at 20-6 and DeJean thinks Prep can be better this year and avenge last years 62-60 loss to Bullis HS in the IAC title game. Both teams appear to be best in the tough IAC conference for this coming season. His teammates include 5’10”, 2018 PG Jared Bynum who has committed to St. Joseph, 6’6″ explosive wing Mezzie Offurum who has numerous D1 offers, 6’7″ 2018 high riser Ike Nweke who is now a D1 prospect after a breakout spring with Team Melo 17 & U, and 6’4″ 2019 sharpshooter Will Mulquin.
This summer DeJean is will play in the DeMatha BSN summer league which concludes in early July as well as the Maryland Elite basketball League. On the Grassroots circuit his DC Blue Devils 16 & U team is 12-0 on the UAA Circuit and will compete in the UAA Finals on July 12-15 in Atlanta, GA.
We will be covering Georgetown Prep and the IAC extensively this coming season as well as providing updated Grassroots reports.
