Recruiting Report 2018: Deven Richmond
Deven Richmond, 6’4″, WG, 2018. DeMatha HS, Hyattsville, MD.
Grassroots Team: Maryland 3D 17 & u:
Deven is a high flying 6’4″ WG with a tremendous upside. On the court Deven looks like a great prospect with a strong & chizzled basketball physique & a great wingspan. While the DeMatha HS starting 5 has yet to be determined for the 2017/18, Deven has an excellent chance to start. We saw him last year display great explosion & toughness coming off he bench. In addition, Deven proved he is a very tough defender, and can get hot from long range, or attack the rim. He adds,” I bring high energy and the intangibles. This is year I will be a vocal leader & lead by example.” Since Deven has only been playing basketball since the 8th grade he has just begun to scratch his on court potential. This could be a breakout year for Deven who we believe has all the skills, elite athleticism and mindset for a D1 recruit.
We have seen Deven numerous times this summer at the DeMatha BSN Summer League and he looks like he has been playing organized basketball much longer than 4 years. Deven has developed a very good basketball IQ and adds, “I am a very good rebounder and energizer. This spring I have improved at all my skills and my confidence is very high. I am going to continue to work and give 110% the rest of my career which I have been doing.”
This summer Deven is working out 6 days a week with his father Derek Richmond, DeMatha’s Assistant Coach Kevin Cromer and DeMatha’s Strength & Conditioning Coach Tobe Stevens. Deven says,”I am working on my outside shot, shooting off the dribble, ball handling and all my basketball skills in addition to strength, conditioning & flexibility.”
On the Grassroots circuit Maryland 3D 17 & U is 10-3 & Deven adds,”Coach Miller & Maryland 3D have helped me tremendously since I am getting a lot of game experience which is allowing me to work on my weaknesses which is ultimately what I need.”
Deven carries a 3.0 GPA and says. ” In college I want to study Communications and African American Literature. I want to attend a college that gives me the best fit in the classroom and for basketball.”
We will be covering DeMatha thru the DeMatha BSN Summer League where the playoffs begin this Thursday June 29 and the Championship game the following Monday on July 3. Additionally, we will be providing extensive coverage for DeMatha this coming season.
