Prospect Spotlight: Trent Summerfield (2019)
Forest Hills Northern 6-foot-2 shooting guard Trent Summerfield has been good enough in his high school career to warrant a top-70 ranking in Michigan’s 2019 class.
It’s his ability to shoot the ball and defend that have him on the map, and ranked 63rd currently.
“I would say that I can knock down the 3 pretty well; I probably shot high 30s percentage-wise last year (as a sophomore), and that really helps to spread the defense out,” said Summerfield.
“I’m trying to improve my game going towards the basket by getting stronger, so I’ll be able to finish better around the basket.”
Last winter with the Huskies, Summerfield was good a role player. He says next year his role will be much-increased.
“Last year I was more of a defender, and just knocking down 3s. We had other kids that did most of the scoring,” he said. “I think coming up this year, I’ll have to carry more weight than I did last year.”
But before his junior season, Summerfield will have a very important 16U summer. He’ll be playing with Grand Rapids Storm.
“This AAU season has been very good. I think the biggest improvement I’ve made during the AAU season is my rebounding,” he said. “I’ve been working on that a lot, and that’s a little extra I bring to my AAU team.”
Summerfield’s goals for the summer? Get noticed.
“This summer I’m hoping to get a lot of local looks and grab some college coaches’ attention,” he said. “I’m looking to grab some attention, and make my name a little more known coming into my junior year at Northern.”
