Prospect Spotlight: Peyton Trexler (2018)
Peyton Trexler – 6’2” | PG | Southwood | Class of 2018
Peyton Trexler of Southwood is an all-around athlete who excels on the basketball court as well as the football field. He has been running the point position for his high school and AAU teams alike for the past three seasons. Although he is taking the summer off to attend more football camps, he is likely to continue turning heads between the lines on the court as well.
“I think the best attribute I bring to my team would have to be speed, confidence, and being able to calm them down in high-pressure situations.” As an experienced floor general, Trexler knows how to handle the ball and his team on crucial possessions. He is a true point guard in the sense that he is an extension of the head coach on the floor. He controls the offense and keeps all of the guys on the same page.
“By playing point guard, I take pride in being able to bring all those things to the team.”
Southwood has already attended team camps at Indiana Wesleyan University and Purdue University. They will be attending a couple of shootouts coming up at Huntington University.
Summer workouts have been going well for Trexler. Being a two-sport athlete gives him more opportunities to gain interest from a wide-range of schools and programs. “A lot of coaches at the camps I’ve been attending seemed really interested in me and my talents.”
Although this summer consists of time working on both sports, Trexler is eagerly awaiting his senior season on the court. “I think I need to work on my mid-range and three-point shooting.”
Peyton has the ability to go coast-to-coast from the defensive glass to the rim before the defense even gets set. His speed with the basketball is typically unmatched by opponents. His length and athleticism allow him to get to the rim and finish strong at the basket. His aggressiveness and ability to get into the lane also creates open opportunities for his teammates to score. Trexler has good court awareness and knows how to handle himself in situations where he has to make tough decisions with the ball.
When it comes to playing at the next level, Peyton is interested in pursuing both sports if possible. “Most importantly, they need to have the right classes and degree that I’m wanting to pursue.” He is planning on pursuing a degree in Sports Medicine.
“A good playing atmosphere and social environment with the players is also important to me. If they want someone who’s a hard worker and will get the job done, I’m that guy.”
Peyton Trexler is an intriguing point guard prospect with his size and athleticism. He works hard in the class room and is an important player on both teams. He is willing to do what it takes for his team to win and takes his leadership role seriously as the point guard of this team.
Peyton is someone to keep an eye on as he looks to build off his successes last season. He averaged 14.8 points, 3.1 assists, 2.6 steals, and 2.2 rebounds per game as a junior.
